Ultimate Dance Marathon Wedding
I’ve been fortunate to play at many incredible weddings over the years, but some stick out as truly unique experiences. Recently, The Way Band had the pleasure of performing at a wedding in Ithaca that can only be described as a full-on dance marathon. What made it even more memorable was that the dancing began almost as soon as we started playing and didn’t stop until the night was over. From the first few notes, this crowd was ready to party, and the energy in the room was absolutely electric. It was one of those nights where I almost forgot we needed to take a break, I was having so much fun!
All-Ages on the Dance Floor
One of the most remarkable aspects of this wedding was how it truly brought together guests of all ages on the dance floor. From toddlers barely able to stand to grandparents, everyone was in on the action. It wasn’t just a few people here and there. The floor was consistently packed, and at one point, even a guest in a wheelchair was brought up to participate in the fun. Witnessing moments like these is what makes performing at weddings so fulfilling—music has the incredible ability to bring people together in a way that nothing else can.
A Sure Sign of an Epic Party
Typically, wedding receptions follow a certain flow: you start with some subdued, easy-going music during dinner, and once dessert is served and speeches are made, the dancing really begins. But that wasn’t the case with this crowd. It was like they couldn’t wait to get the party started. Just a few songs into our set, and suddenly the dance floor was full. From there, it was non-stop dancing for the rest of the night. I was having such a blast playing for them that I almost forgot the band needed a break to recharge!
Full, Five-Piece Band Experience
For this event, we had a saxophonist and keyboardist joining our core trio, creating a rich, dynamic sound that filled the room with energy. The combination of live instruments—especially the sax and keys—added that extra layer of musicality that really elevated the experience. Having more musicians allows us to offer a broader range of songs and styles, and with this crowd’s enthusiasm, we had plenty of fun mixing it up.
We kicked off the set with some classic hits and kept the momentum going with tunes like Superstition and My Girl, and before we knew it, everyone was up and dancing to Valerie and How Sweet It Is. The variety of music we performed that night spanned generations, which ensured everyone in the room—from the kids to the grandparents—found something to connect with.
Here’s a peek at some of the songs we played that night:
- Superstition – Stevie Wonder
- Valerie – Amy Winehouse
- How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You) – Marvin Gaye
- Uptown Funk – Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars
- Can’t Stop the Feeling – Justin Timberlake
- September – Earth, Wind & Fire
- Shut Up and Dance – Walk the Moon
- Twist & Shout – The Beatles
- I Gotta Feeling – Black Eyed Peas
- Hey Ya! – OutKast

Variety That Keeps Everyone Happy
One of the things I’m most proud of when it comes to The Way Band is our wide range of music. We’ve designed our repertoire to be as versatile as possible, so we can appeal to guests of all ages and musical preferences. We can easily transition from Motown to modern pop, from jazz to rock, without missing a beat. For this wedding, we took the crowd on a musical journey, playing everything from Sir Duke to Folsom Prison Blues, from Kiss by Prince to Get Lucky by Daft Punk. It was an eclectic mix that had something for everyone.
Our ability to keep the dance floor alive all night is a testament to the diversity of our song list. We’re always able to read the room and adjust the setlist accordingly. For this particular wedding, I’d say the crowd loved the upbeat, high-energy tracks, but we also played some slower songs to give people a chance to catch their breath and enjoy a slow dance or two.
Client Testimonial
The icing on the cake for this gig was the feedback from the bride and groom. Here’s what they had to say:
“Dennis and The Way kept our guests dancing all night! So glad we found him. Planning a wedding is stressful, but one thing we didn’t worry about was the music. Dennis was extremely communicative and helpful throughout the entire process.”
It’s comments like these that make what we do so rewarding. One of the reasons they chose us is because they discovered that many of the other wedding bands they found online were essentially businesses that contracted dozens of musicians across the state. They liked the fact that we’re a local band, made up of local musicians who have played together before, and that showed in our performance.
Heart and Soul
It’s always a pleasure to be part of such a special day, but this particular wedding stands out because of the heart and soul that was evident in every moment. The guests were all in from the very start, and it was clear that music was a central part of the celebration for everyone involved. From singing along to classic hits to dancing the night away, this group knew how to have a good time—and they weren’t shy about showing it! Whether it was a guest grooving to Sweet Caroline or someone belting out the words to Shout, the night was filled with pure joy and celebration.
When we hit the final stretch of the night, we could feel the crowd’s energy was still going strong. We ended with some absolute classics like Shout and Proud Mary—songs that have a way of bringing everyone together for one final hurrah. And, of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without a rousing rendition of Hey Ya!, which sent everyone into a frenzy before the clock finally struck the end of the event.
Band for All Ages, All Events
If there’s one takeaway from this unforgettable night, it’s this: live music has the power to unite people of all ages, and The Way Band knows how to deliver an experience that gets everyone dancing. Whether it’s a young child grooving to Can’t Stop the Feeling or grandparents tapping their feet to Jailhouse Rock, we’ve got the tunes that will make your wedding or event a night to remember.
The night was a true testament to the power of music, and I’m grateful that we were able to create such lasting memories for the bride and groom, their families, and all their guests. So, if you’re planning a wedding and want to make sure your guests spend more time on the dance floor than in their seats, The Way Band is here to make that happen.
