Wedding at Trailwater Lodge

Playing a wedding at Trailwater Lodge was a truly memorable experience. The venue, nestled along the scenic Salmon River in Altmar, NY, provided a stunning backdrop for both the ceremony and the cocktail hour. As a musician, I’ve performed at numerous wedding venues, but the combination of natural beauty, versatile spaces, and the warmth of the staff at Trailwater Lodge made this particular event stand out.

The Ceremony: A Picture-Perfect Start

The wedding ceremony was held in a tented area across the parking lot from The Barn, where the reception would later take place. The ceremony space was expansive, easily accommodating over 150 guests. As the guests gathered, I began playing Pachelbel’s Canon, a classic choice for weddings that always adds a touch of elegance to the proceedings. However, the challenge with such a familiar piece is timing it perfectly to match the processional. Since all the guests stood up as I began playing, I didn’t have a clear view of the bride’s progress down the aisle. Before I knew it, she was already standing in front of the minister, so I quickly finished the strain of music I was on and ended gracefully. This moment reminded me of the importance of staying adaptable and being able to adjust on the fly during live performances.

For the recessional, the couple chose “I Cross My Heart” by George Strait, a beautiful and heartfelt song that perfectly captured the emotion of the moment. As I played, I could feel the joy and love in the air, and it was a privilege to contribute to such a special day. The Cocktail Hour: A Cozy Transition

After the ceremony, I moved to one area of The Barn to play during the cocktail hour. The Barn at Trailwater Lodge is a versatile space with different areas that can be used for various parts of an event. The cocktail hour took place in the bar area, which is cozy and inviting, with a rustic charm that fits perfectly with the lodge’s overall aesthetic. The acoustics in this space were excellent, allowing the music to fill the room without being overpowering.

I played a mix of songs, including Fleetwood Mac’s “Everywhere,” which you can check out in this video clip. The guests enjoyed mingling and chatting while I provided a backdrop of familiar tunes that kept the atmosphere light and relaxed. This part of the evening is always one of my favorites because it allows me to connect with the guests in a more intimate setting before the energy ramps up for the reception.

After the cocktail hour, the guests moved next door to the reception area, which is in the same large room as the bar but separated by sliding doors. Just outside the bar area is a lovely patio where guests can step outside, enjoy the fresh air, and take in the beautiful scenery.
