A Perfect Wedding Day at Zugibe Vineyards
Yesterday, I had the distinct pleasure of performing as a solo guitarist at a beautiful wedding at Zugibe Vineyards, a venue I’ve always admired for its scenic beauty and perfect ambiance for such special occasions. Having previously played jazz with a sax player at this location, I was already familiar with its stunning views and serene atmosphere, which made it an ideal spot for a wedding.
The Setting
Zugibe Vineyards, located on the eastern side of Seneca Lake in Geneva, NY, offers breathtaking vistas and a welcoming environment. Established in 2005, the vineyard has grown from 23 acres to 40 acres, cultivating 11 different varietals including Riesling, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay. The venue not only offers wine tastings and a delightful Mediterranean menu at its Phoenician Bistro but also serves as a picturesque backdrop for weddings and special events.
Having played at Zugibe Vineyards before, I have always noticed its potential as a stunning wedding venue. The vineyard’s lush landscape, combined with its comprehensive amenities like wine tastings and the Phoenician Bistro, makes it an ideal location for various events. The vineyard’s commitment to quality and hospitality is evident in every detail, ensuring that each event held there is memorable.
The Ceremony
For this particular wedding, the bride and groom had specific musical requests for their ceremony. They wanted rock and pop instrumental guitar, which set a modern yet elegant tone for the event. Two songs were especially important to them: “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley for the bridal party processional, and “Head Over Feet” by Alanis Morissette for the bridal processional.
The choice of “Head Over Feet” held special significance as it was a surprise for the bride. The groom revealed that this song was sent to him by the bride many years ago, making it a touching and personal choice for their wedding. As the bride walked down the aisle to this song, the groom later told me that I “nailed it,” and the moment made him emotional. It was a powerful reminder of how music can evoke deep feelings and create unforgettable moments. Here are some short excerpts of the music I played for the ceremony.
The Reception
Following the ceremony, the celebration continued with a mix of live jazz guitar, described by the couple as “Sinatra-style jazz,” along with classic pop and rock melodies woven into the set. This blend of genres kept the atmosphere lively and engaging, perfectly complementing the joyous occasion. The versatility of jazz standards combined with contemporary melodies provided a musical backdrop that resonated well with all the guests, enhancing the overall experience.
A Personal Touch
One of the most rewarding aspects of performing at weddings is the ability to contribute to such an important day in a meaningful way. Being part of the couple’s journey and helping to create memories that will last a lifetime is incredibly fulfilling. The beautiful day in May, the intimate setting, and the heartfelt moments shared by the couple and their guests made this wedding at Zugibe Vineyards truly special.
Why I Love Playing Weddings
