Embracing the Musical Tapestry: A Month of Diverse Gigs!

I’m thrilled to share a little musical journey I’ve been on this past month. It’s been a whirlwind of gigs, each offering a unique flavor and atmosphere. Let’s dive in!

1. New Orleans-Style Duo: National Buffalo Wing Festival

Kicking off the month, I had the pleasure of bringing some New Orleans flair to the National Buffalo Wing Festival in Orchard Park. The energy was infectious, and the crowd’s enthusiasm was palpable. It’s amazing how music can add that extra layer of vibrancy to an already lively event.

2. Solo Instrumental at Antlers Restaurant

Back in familiar territory, I returned to Antlers Restaurant in Ithaca for my usual solo instrumental gig. There’s something special about the intimacy of this setting. It allows me to connect with the audience on a more personal level, letting the music speak for itself.  I have come to love playing solo more than ever.  Here is a video of my playing solo guitar (at a different venue.)

3. Guitar and Voice: Inn at Taughannock Falls

Nestled in the picturesque town of Trumansburg, my gig at the Inn at Taughannock Falls was a delight. The combination of acoustic guitar melodies and heartfelt vocals created an intimate, soulful atmosphere. The backdrop of the falls added an extra touch of magic.  Here is a video of my cover of Black Magic Woman by Santana from that night.

4. High Holy Days at Cornell University

Accompanying the rabbi for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services at Cornell University was a unique and meaningful experience. Music has the power to enhance the spiritual journey, and it was an honor to be a part of these sacred moments.  Between rehearsal and one of the services, I made a video for my students at Guitar Lessons Ithaca on how to accompany singers.

5. Duet at Dryden Hotel

Teaming up with vocalist Cathie Coiro at the Dryden Hotel was a fantastic change of pace. The synergy between voice and guitar adds a whole new dimension to the music. It’s a testament to the power of collaboration in creating beautiful harmonies.  Here is a video of one of the selections we did that night.

6. Retirement Luncheon in Lyons, NY

Bringing music to a retirement luncheon in Lyons, NY was a heartwarming experience. Music has the power to evoke nostalgia and create a sense of celebration. It was an honor to be a part of such a significant milestone.

7. Jazz Quartet at the Rochester Science Museum

Ending the month on a jazzy note, I was asked to play guitar in a quartet at the Rochester Science Museum.  Jazz has a unique way of engaging and captivating audiences. It was a pleasure to share this genre with an eager and receptive crowd.  Here is a video of us playing the Charlie Parker classic Billie’s Bounce.

Reflecting on this month’s diverse gigs, I’m reminded of the incredible range and depth that music offers. From intimate solo performances to collaborative duets and ensemble work, each gig has left its mark.
